With a Sprig of Holly and Some Holiday Glamour

Tis the season for Christmas trees, festive mantel décor and garland for days; now that December is officially here, people everywhere are beginning to deck the halls and usher merriment into their homes the best way they know how: with Christmas decorations! Let’s face it, without all of these extra things surrounding us during the holiday season, it just wouldn’t feel like Christmas – we crave equal parts warmth and brightness that can only be captured during this time of year.

Instead of limiting yourself to the very few colors that tradition labels as “Christmassy,” give yourself a new perspective and explore some of this year’s most popular holiday color trends.

According to exhibitors at Christmasworld, the world’s largest dedicated trade fair for festive and seasonal decorations, one of the new must-have colors for the holidays this year is turquoise. Use of this particular color as well as a number of similar shades, such as ice-blue, teal and pistachio, is a fantastic way to incorporate a sense of fresh air into your winter wonderland. Accent pillows, decorative glass bulbs, candles and more can all be found in these shades to create a lively yet simple elegance that can often be missing from the holiday “norm”.

Another unexpected color that has gained major popularity in holiday décor is purple – particular in deep shades of violet. A great (and unexpected) way to utilize this color would be to substitute the traditional, red poinsettias for vibrant orchids and place them in various locations around your home. You may also want to explore the idea of using the color of luxury at your dining table by choosing placemats in this shade – the color will really pop when used under your golden dinner plates and turquoise table runner. Looking to take it a step further? Why not consider a faux tree this year in this stunning shade? With all of the incredible options available on the market, why limit yourself to green each year? Switch it up a bit!

If you’re afraid of losing the essence of Christmas by stepping outside of hues of red and green, keep in mind that it isn’t really about the colors that you use, but more about what you choose to do with them. Regardless of which changes you decide to make, your home will be filled with the same holiday cheer – just in a more glamorous fashion.

Don’t forget to share your Christmas decorating story with us! Do you have a favourite color combo this season? We want to hear from you!
